Enphase Energy Marks a New Milestone with the Launch of GaN-Powered IQ9N-3P Commercial Microinverters for 480V Solar Applications
Enphase Energy, Inc., recognized as a frontrunner in the energy technology sector, has announced the beginning of production and shipment of its innovative IQ9N-3P™ Commercial Microinverter throughout the United States. This cutting-edge microinverter is proudly manufactured domestically and specifically engineered to comply with the Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) regulations as well as domestic content requirements for qualifying commercial solar initiatives.
What makes the IQ9N-3P particularly noteworthy is that it is Enphase’s inaugural microinverter utilizing advanced gallium nitride (GaN) technology. This allows it to support three-phase 480Y/277 V (wye) grid configurations without the need for external transformers, which can complicate installations. The design aims to streamline system architecture, lower both installation and balance-of-system expenses, and boost efficiency for high-powered commercial solar projects. Thanks to its superior GaN power conversion capabilities, the IQ9N-3P boasts an impressive efficiency rating of up to 97.5%, accommodating solar panels with capacities of up to 600 W.
Jon Wedel, co-owner and vice president of the commercial division at Namaste Solar, based in Colorado, shared his enthusiasm: "With the introduction of this new 480 V solution, we are now able to pursue simpler applications and implement systems with greater efficiency. The fact that it is manufactured in the U.S. and meets domestic content standards significantly eases our navigation through the current market landscape, all while providing top-notch solutions for our clients."
The IQ9N-3P microinverters align with critical standards including UL 1741-SB and IEEE 1547-2018, covering essential features such as rapid shutdown capabilities, phase balancing, voltage/frequency ride-through, and loss-of-phase detection. These attributes ensure safe and dependable operations within the grid. Enphase commercial systems utilize the IQ® Gateway Commercial Pro as a central hub for communication and control, facilitating real-time monitoring, energy management, and advanced grid functionalities like export limiting.
Adding to the dialogue, Drew Collom, co-founder of Quality Solar, remarked, "The domestic manufacturing aspect and alignment with local content regulations empower us to devise more efficient systems while fulfilling federal sourcing mandates. This enables us to scale projects over time without incurring expensive redesigns."
Microinverters labeled with a "DOM" suffix indicate they are produced using U.S. content, thus ensuring compliance with the Buy America Act and the Build America, Buy America Act. Projects that meet eligibility criteria may be entitled to domestic content bonus tax credits. Additionally, the IQ9N-3P comes with a robust 25-year limited warranty, while the IQ Gateway Commercial Pro is supported by a 15-year limited warranty.
Aaron Gordon, senior vice president and general manager of Enphase’s systems business unit, underscored the importance of U.S. manufacturing: "By producing this product within the United States, we assist commercial projects in adhering to domestic content regulations, while also delivering reliability, versatility, and long-term value."
