Hyundai Staria Camper EV: The Ultimate Solar-Powered Electric Camper Van for Off-Grid Adventures (2026)

Hyundai has just unveiled an innovative all-electric camper van, designed for those who crave adventure while embracing sustainability. This remarkable vehicle not only features solar panels for renewable energy but also comes equipped with a kitchen and various other amenities that make it ideal for extended trips into the great outdoors.

Introducing the Hyundai Staria Camper EV Concept!

Just a week after launching the Staria Electric—its first fully electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV)—Hyundai took the opportunity to showcase this exciting camper version at the CMT trade fair held in Stuttgart, Germany.

The camper concept is built on the same fundamental architecture as the Staria Electric, boasting an impressive estimated driving range of up to 400 kilometers (approximately 249 miles) according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). Hyundai claims that this long-range capacity is among the best available for electric MPVs, making it a solid foundation for a premium electric camper experience.

Additionally, it shares the advanced 800-volt high-voltage platform with popular models such as the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and the upcoming IONIQ 9. Thanks to this technology, the vehicle can recharge from 10% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes using DC fast charging stations.

While it utilizes the same 160 kW (215 horsepower) front-mounted electric motor as its Staria EV counterpart, Hyundai has enhanced the camper’s comfort by refining both the front and rear suspension systems and incorporating soundproofing materials to ensure a quiet ride.

One of the standout features of the Staria Camper is its pop-up roof, which opens at the push of a button to create more interior living space and provide access to the kitchen area.

Tailored for those wishing to venture beyond traditional campsites, this camper includes a 520-watt solar panel that seamlessly integrates into the pop-up roof design. Hyundai estimates that, with an average of five hours of sunlight per day, this setup can produce up to 2.6 kWh of electricity. This stored energy can be utilized to enhance the driving range or power off-grid adventures. For those longer journeys, the camper is also outfitted with a 36-liter refrigerator, a portable showerhead, and a cabin climate-control system, ensuring comfort and convenience.

But there's even more! The Staria Camper is equipped with smart glass in the rear, which can be controlled via a specialized touchscreen interface. This feature allows users to adjust the transparency and shading, giving them control over the amount of light and UV rays that enter the space.

The Staria Camper seems to be the dream vehicle for many outdoor enthusiasts, but the big question remains: will it actually reach production? Currently, Hyundai has stated that the Staria Electric Camper Concept is "under evaluation" during the 2026 CMT. Should it receive the green light, we can expect additional details to follow in the future.

For those attending the event, there’s an opportunity to influence the decision on whether this concept goes into production through Hyundai’s online survey.

Now, what does this mean for potential buyers in the United States? It's worth noting that the gas-powered version of the Staria isn’t available in the U.S., and Hyundai has indicated that this camper concept is primarily aimed at European consumers.

Would you consider purchasing Hyundai's electric camper? If so, what price point would you find reasonable? We invite you to share your opinions in the comments below!
